A great way to integrate corten steel planters into your flagstone or bluestone patio is to create unpaved areas that are slightly larger than the footprint of the planter. The unpaved openings are filled with pea gravel and the planters are set directly on top of the gravel. This will allow the planter to drain properly and will channel the excess water into the soil. Also, the pea gravel acts as an attractive hedge while keeping the rust runoff away from the stone and preventing any possible staining from the corten steel.
